About Project

The M5 Motorway, an integral part of Sydney’s Orbital Network, stretches over 29 kilometres and serves as a vital transportation artery in Sydney, New South Wales. Established in stages between 1992 and 2001, the motorway consists of two main segments: the South-West Motorway and the M5 East.

The South-West Motorway, operated by Interlink Roads, begins south of the Roden Cutler Interchange in Prestons, intersecting with the M7 and M31 Motorways, and extends eastward to Beverly Hills. This section underwent tolling under the M5 South-West tolls. The M5 East, on the other hand, is a 4-kilometer tunnel connecting Bexley North to Arncliffe, which was inaugurated in December 2001. This tunnel links to General Holmes Drive at Kyeemagh and has been tolled since July 2020.

Another noteworthy aspect of the M5 is the M5 cycleway, which runs parallel to the M5 East between King Georges Road and Arncliffe. Over the years, the motorway has seen numerous expansions and upgrades to accommodate the growing traffic demands of the city.
